Les membres de l’Association Nationale des Transformateurs de Maïs (ANTM) Bénin se sont réunis le samedi 25 novembre 2023 au siège de l’Agence Territoriale de Développement Agricole (ATDA) du pôle 7. A la faveur de leur Assemblée Générale Extraordinaire, ils ont dressé le bilan des activités de 2023 et défini les perspectives pour l’année prochaine.

Première base alimentaire au Bénin, le maïs est produit sur l’ensemble du territoire national et nourrit plus de 70 % de la population. Sa transformation en divers produits dérivés est assurée par bon nombre de femmes ainsi que d’hommes qui constituent aujourd’hui les membres de l’association nationale des transformateurs de maïs du Bénin. Cette faîtière nationale a réuni des membres pour procéder au bilan de ces activités au cours d’une assemblée générale extraordinaire. Trois temps forts ont marqué cette assise. D’abord, les activités menées au cours de l’année 2023 ont été passées en revue. En autres activités, la présidente a confié qu’il a été organisé une série de formation au profit des membres sur la gestion administrative et financière d’un groupement, la gestion des conflits au sein d’une entreprise etc. Aussi ajoute-elle l’ANTM Bénin a amorcé au cours de cette année 2023 l’annuaire départemental des membres.
« Dans tout le Bénin, il y a au moins un représentant de notre association »
a déclaré Edith Mireille DEGUENON. Ensuite, il a été procédé à la dégustation de Spaghetti fait à base de pâte de maïs. Cette innovation non encore répandue, l’ANTM Bénin souhaite la porter à l’échelle nationale selon les propos de la présidente. Cela viendra s’ajouter aux nombreux produits dérivés issus de la transformation du maïs.
Enfin, les membres ont discuté des activités prévues pour 2024.
« Notre ambition est d’aller à l’interprofession en 2024 pour mieux défendre les intérêts de la filière maïs »,
a annoncé Edith Mireille DEGUENON. Mais au-delà, les activités statutaires de l’association seront poursuivies. Malgré les défis quotidiens, tels que la rupture de matière première à certains moments de l’année, la présidente a souligné le bon état du maillon de la transformation du maïs au Bénin. Elle a regretté toutefois la fuite du maïs vers les pays voisins, les problèmes liés à la mise aux normes des unités de transformation, les obstacles pour obtenir des certifications et des autorisations de mise sur le marché, ainsi que l’inaccessibilité aux emballages biodégradables.
Relever ces défis permettrait aux acteurs de ce maillon de mieux répondre aux besoins de la population qui le maïs constitue la première source d’alimentation.
